Alexander (Xan) Karn is an associate professor of history at Colgate University (NY, USA), where he also teaches courses in museum studies and peace and conflict studies. He currently serves as the convener of the Historical Dialogues, Justice, and Memory Network (www.historicaldialoges.org). He is the author of Amending the Past: Europe’s Holocaust Commissions and the Right to History (University of Wisconsin Press) and co-editor (with Elazar Barkan) of Taking Wrongs Seriously: Apologies and Reconciliation (Stanford University Press). His public-facing writing has appeared in The Progressive, Salon, and HuffPost.

Research interests include: the politics of history, historical justice, historical reconciliation, historical commissions, museums and memory, historical monuments, historical anniversaries, memory holes, and memory trolls.
